What is a single flute (O Flute) bit?

Our ‘O’ flute bits are manufactured from solid carbide tool material in straight and spiral configuration. The upcut, or right hand spiral is most readily utilized because of the need to evacuate chip in an upward direction in flat sheet or block applications. Upward movement of chips avoids welding, which is a common problem in the machining of plastic. With a high rake angle and relatively low helix, O-flute cutters manage to cut acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, PVC at very high chip loads without raising a burr or fracturing the edges of the surface. All of this while leaving a really clean surface finish. O flutes also work incredibly well in wood and aluminum with effortless chip removal.

Ryan X. ★★★★★

Finally got around to cutting some 1/4″ acrylic sheet with this bit, and the flutes cleared chips so cleanly I didn't have to stop for pecking. Left a polished edge right off the router table.

Emily ★★★★★

The Astra coating on this bit really makes a difference cutting through polypropylene—no melting or gumming up like my old uncoated bits. It handles the Corian and Dibond cleanly too, though I wish the packaging was a bit sturdier for storage. Solid buy for these materials.

Jason ★★★★★

I've been cutting acrylic signs with this bit and the AstraHP coating really does reduce melting compared to standard bits—no more cleaning up gummy edges. The 1/4" O-flute clears chips fast, even on deep passes through 1/2" Corian.
