What is a O Flute bit? (Sometimes called a Single Flute bit)

Our “O” flute tools are manufactured from solid carbide tool material in straight and spiral configuration. The upcut, or right hand spiral is most readily utilized because of the need to evacuate chip in an upward direction in flat sheet or block applications. Upward movement of chips avoids welding, which is a common problem in the machining of plastic. With a high rake angle and relatively low helix, O-flute cutters manage to cut acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, PVC at very high chip loads without raising a burr or fracturing the edges of the surface. All of this while leaving a really clean surface finish. “O” flutes also work incredibly well in wood and aluminum with effortless chip removal!

Julian L. ★★★★★

The AstraHP coating on this bit lets me push feed rates way higher than with uncoated ones, and it still leaves a clean edge on the acrylic. Cuts through 1/2″ material without any burning or chattering.

Zoe ★★★★★

Third one I've ordered, and the AstraHP coating really does let me push the feed rate without any burn marks on the edges. The 1/2" cut length is perfect for the 1/4" plywood panels I'm routing. The spiral clears chips fast enough that I don't have to stop and blow out the groove.

Christopher ★★★★★

This bit cuts through plywood so cleanly I didn't even need to sand the edges. The cut length is just right for my 1/2-inch deep passes, and the coating seems to keep it from gumming up even at faster feed rates.
